Notes for Episode 48: Barreled Balls In MLB

Having previously discussed exit velocity and launch angle on the show, the concept behind the Statcast stat "Barrels" is that they are the ideal combination of those two stats. It is the right combination that will most typically result in a home run, thereby making it the goal for each hitter (in ideal circumstances). For the first portion of today's episode, Josh and Corwin look at how the amount of barreled balls a team hits affects their Slugging Percent as well as their home run totals. Then for pitching, how the amount of barreled balls surrendered to hitters affects a team's total ERA, The guys then look at pitcher hitting in each league in 2018, and strikeouts on balls out of the strike zone. As always, if you want to look at the spreadsheets for this episode, check out the link below!
