In today's episode, we cover poor MLB Hall of Famers, Longest hit outs, and "Clutch" stats.
What makes a poor hall of famer? Well, in this instance, it is a Hall of Famer that clearly doesn't meet the standard for what it takes a ballplayer to get into the Hall. The reason for these people often being in the Hall is due to the much maligned Veteran's Committee. To make a long story short, the Veteran's Committee ( a committee formed to review the Hall of Fame case for older era players who have already fallen off the ballot) during its early years had a propensity towards voting in players whom were friends of the members of the committee, allowing in lots of "undeserving" ballplayers. We look at a few of those players.
Longest hit outs it exactly how it sounds! Corwin and Josh look at the distance, exit velocity, and expected batting average for very far hit balls that resulted in outs, just as a fun exercise.
Being "clutch" refers to late-game antics that help your team power through to a win. Hitting a home run when your team is already up 9-2? Not clutch. Hitting a solo home run when your team is down 2-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game? Clutch! We go over a few chosen "clutch" stats to see who leads in these categories and discuss the significance of them.
