Notes for Episode 74: Era Adjusted Batting

Baseball is a remarkable sport as it has changed so incredibly dramatically over the past 150 years, yet has maintained so much to the point where one could reasonably dropped off in a random game from 1902 and be perfectly capable or following along with little adjustment. This makes for one of the great difficulties when talking about player statistics from early eras and compare them to modern players. Sure, the stats are all the same (Batting Average, Slugging Percent, etc) but the level and style of play were so massively different, perhaps we need to take a different approach in comparing players over the years.

On this episode, we do just that! We divide the entire 150 year of Baseball into different eras, pull various batting stats for those eras, adjust them, and compare them against each other in an attempt to more accurately see how the game has changed over time.
